DC Rajouri Sanctions Monthly Sponsorship for Gold Medalist Boxer Yasser under Mission Vatsalya
In a heartfelt gesture, the Deputy Commissioner of Rajouri Abhishek Sharma visited the home of 14 year-old national boxing gold medalist Mohd Yasser, extending congratulations to his family and announcing a monthly sponsorship grant to support Yasser’s and his sister’s sporting aspirations under the #MissionVatsalya initiative.
In a move that underscores the power of sport and community support, the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Rajouri paid a special visit to the family of Mohd Yasser, a 14-year-old boxer who recently won gold at the Sub-Junior National Boxing Championship in Noida, Uttar Pradesh. Yasser, who has risen from severe hardship—including homelessness and poverty—is now being celebrated locally and nationally for his dedication and success in the ring.
The DC congratulated Yasser’s family and announced a monthly sponsorship of ₹8,000, sanctioned under the government’s #MissionVatsalya scheme. The funds will help Yasser and his sister, who also trains as a boxer, pursue their dreams and overcome the financial barriers that threatened to hold them back.
Yasser’s journey to the top was not easy. After his home was demolished, he lived with his widowed mother and siblings under challenging conditions, often facing food insecurity. Supported by his coach Ishtyaq Malik at the Rajouri Sports Stadium, Yasser overcame these obstacles, earning gold in the 52-55 kg category and inspiring a region.
The sponsorship provides critical financial assistance for training, nutrition, and everyday needs, illustrating both the struggles and potential of young athletes from marginalized communities. The administration’s promise of ongoing support under Mission Vatsalya is being hailed as a significant step towards empowering talented youth and encouraging sports as a path to personal and social change.
This initiative not only marks a proud moment for Yasser and his family but also sets a precedent for nurturing aspirations among Rajouri’s youth, demonstrating how targeted governmental support can transform lives and foster excellence against the odds.
