Cybersecurity Concerns and Rising Cyberattacks in India

 India rapidly embraces digital technologies, concerns over cybersecurity threats have escalated sharply in 2025. Reports show a significant rise in cyberattacks targeting government agencies, private enterprises, and critical infrastructure, with hackers increasingly exploiting vulnerabilities in cloud services, financial platforms, and communication networks. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) is formulating stricter cybersecurity regulations and enhancing the mandate of the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) to swiftly respond to threats.

Furthermore, new guidelines are being proposed to regulate data privacy, breach disclosures, and the responsibilities of tech companies in safeguarding user data. Experts highlight the urgent need for public-private cooperation and investment in cybersecurity skills development to counter sophisticated threats. The government is also considering a comprehensive Cybercrime Prevention and Control Act to modernize laws and provide a stronger legal framework against online offenses such as hacking, identity theft, and digital fraud
